Melanie + Jon: Colorful, Fun, Vibrant Chicago Wedding
Melanie and Jon’s day was colorful and FUN! When we first chatted, we connected over our love for street festivals! They shared that they already had their band booked, Rod Tuffcurls and the Bench Press. Seeing them so many times at street festivals, I immediately knew this was going to be a fun wedding, not only for their guests, but for the Olive Fine Weddings team, and it sure was!

Melanie & Jon got married on a beautiful end of August day at Wildman BT. They are both so laid-back, they wanted the day to be convenient and stress-free, not only for their guests but for themselves. Melanie got ready at Wildman’s second-floor wedding suite with her best gal pals while Jon got ready at The Hoxton.
They opted to do a first look and take photos before the ceremony so they could enjoy their cocktail hour and reception with their guests.
Instead of having a formal wedding party, they had Melanie’s sister and Jon’s brother stand with them. They also had Melanie’s good friend as the officiant. Fun fact, Melanie was the officiant at her wedding as well! What a special moment to share with one another.
And check out those vibrant ceremony florals created by Flowerchild — absolutely gorgeous!
After the ceremony, guests transitioned to the cocktail hour. During the cocktail hour, Melanie’s grandfather conducted a traditional tea ceremony for both of their immediate families. It was so important to have representation from both Melanie’s and Jon’s cultures throughout the evening.
After cocktail hour, guests transitioned to dinner, where Ovy Catering provided a delicious dinner. Flowerchild created stunning colorful flowers for their tablescapes and a beautiful hanging installation over the dance floor.
To infuse both Melanie’s Chinese culture and Jon’s Italian roots, they provided cannoli for dessert and Peking duck as a late-night bite. They even had a cannoli cutting instead of the traditional cake cutting.
The dance floor was packed throughout the night thanks to Rod Tuffcurls and the Bench Press. We created interactive experiences for their guests during the reception. Jana from Doodle Booth drew sketches of their guests, a photo booth was provided by Pixster using the custom backdrop Ashley Frye Studio designed, and cornhole was set up for guests to play.
We hope your first year of marriage has been as fun and colorful as your wedding day! XOXO - Kirsten
